Information for Factor XIII patients
Shaun Emmitt, Benign Haematology Nurse Specialist at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, has made a children with Factor XIII deficiencies.
He writes: “I decided to write this booklet when I first started at Sheffield Children’s Hospital 3 years ago; I had just met for the first time my one patient with Factor XIII deficiency, who was then 6 years old. The first thing she asked me was if I had any information about her condition, because she loves to read. I said I didn’t because there was nothing age-appropriate available. I decided that at some point I would write a paediatric information booklet for Factor XIII Deficiency for her and for other patients who might want a bit more information at a level easy enough to understand. Thankfully, I was lucky enough to be given a study grant and the opportunity to do this, and I’m really proud of the end result.”
Shaun continues: Factor XIII Deficiency is a very rare bleeding disorder, so I understand that the demand for this type of information won’t be huge, however I am in the process of getting a number of these booklets printed. If you think you would find this sort of thing useful for your patients, I can send you some out. Thank you!”
